It kind of all started when the Ambassador Caffery Parkway bridge over the Vermilion River was shut down for repairs one Christmas season, and traffic blew up. The problem? It was the early 1980s, and the Camellia Boulevard bridge — or Camellia Boulevard, for that matter — did not exist. It took 20 years for the issue to be fully remedied. This fall will mark 20 years since the Camellia Boulevard bridge opened to traffic , and let's revisit the effort that got it there: the home buyouts, the meetings over what was referred to as Camellia Boulevard extension and the commercial development that followed.
