For our November 2020 Genre Spotlight feature, Library Journal will be previewing upcoming sf/fantasy titles, with a focus on notable debuts, series launches, and standalones scheduled to be released between November 2020 and April 2021. Emily Wagner, who is writing the article, will also explore the current state of the genre. Among the issues to be covered: How do you think COVID-19 is going to impact the types of books and stories that authors create and that readers will look for? How do you think COVID-19 will impact the processes and operations of the publishing industry overall—especially with the shift to working from home for many editors? How do you believe the intense political climate following this year’s election will impact the genre? For example, might we expect more cli-fi, dystopian, or tales of fantastical espionage? What are the new releases for 2021 that you’re most excited for? As dungeons and dragons and Warhammer 40k make a comeback with gen-Z, what sort of high fantasy can we expect in 2021? Please email the following information: author, title, publication date, ISBN, page count, price, marketing plans, formats available (print, audio, ebook), and a brief description—catalog copy will suffice—to Emily Wagner at [email protected]. The deadline is July 15. Thank you so much for your help and participation!
