Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
NBC News' Kristen Welker

Kristen Welker sat down for an extensive interview with Georgia Republican Senate hopeful Herschel Walker, during which she tackled several bombshell reports involving the nominee.

A solid portion of the conversation was dedicated to a Daily Beast report that alleged Walker encouraged and eventually paid for an ex-girlfriend to get an abortion after he impregnated her years ago.

Adding to the stunning report, Walker is running on a strict anti-abortion platform.

Welker got Walker to admit for the first time that he did send a $700 check to his ex-girlfriend, saying, “Yes, that’s my check.”

He maintained, however, that no one could prove that the check was issued to pay for an abortion.

Welker also confronted Walker on statements made by his son Christain Walker, who accused the senate nominee of domestic violence and serial philandering. Walker denied the allegations.

Nailing a third controversy, Welker also asked Walker about the “honorary sheriff badge” he pulled out during his debate with Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA).

Walker claimed that although the badge is honorary, it actually grants him “arresting authority.”

In response, Welker noted, "The National Sheriffs Association said an honorary badge ‘is for the trophy case.’"

Welker impressively covered Walker's numerous controversies while still dedicating enough of the interview to go over where the nominee stands on hot-button issues, including mental health, crime, the economy, and working with Democrats.

MEDIA LOSER:
Kanye West

After sharing a string of controversial Instagram posts, wearing a “White Lives Matter” t-shirt at Paris Fashion Week, sitting down for a largely incoherent interview with Tucker Carlson, launching into multiple anti-Semitic rants, and questioning George Floyd's cause of the death, Kanye West is now buying Parler -- a struggling social media platform geared towards conservatives.

The move comes after West was booted from both Twitter and Instagram following his anti-Semitic posts. Announcing the potential deal, Parler released a statement claiming the rapper will “never have to fear being removed from social media again.”

Parler's current CEO is also George Farmer, the husband of Candace Owens -- a Daily Wire host and friend of West's who donned a matching "White Lives Matter" shirt alongside him in Paris.

Owens has been vocal about her support of West amid all the controversy, and could be part of the reason the rapper decided to purchase a floundering third-tier social media platform.

According to the New York Times, which reviewed data from Data.ai, a platform that monitors app store activity, Parler "dropped to 21,000 in the third quarter of the year from 58,000 in the first quarter" across Apple’s iOS platform and Google Play.

Data.ai also estimated that Parler had "706,000 monthly average users in the middle of the year, compared with an estimated 2.8 million iPhone users on Truth Social," according to the Times report.

West was essentially duped into buying a mediocre social media platform that nobody uses in an attempt to challenge social media censorship. Ouch.
