Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Jake Tapper

Jake Tapper condemned former President Donald Trump forcontinuously "engaging and winking and nodding" to QAnon conspiracy theorists in a worthy segment on Monday.

QAnon holds that Trump was elected in 2016 to help uncover and stop a massive hidden pedophile ring run by wealthy elites and liberals. It is a fringe theory, albeit one with real consequences.

Last year, a California man and QAnon adherent killed his two children because he believed they were "monsters" with “serpent DNA” given to them by their mother.

Trump, in recent weeks, has seemed to embrace the theory. Tapper opened his show on Monday by pointing to Trump’s rally on Saturday in Ohio.

“There were many bizarre moments, including what appears to be echoes of the QAnon conspiracy theory, propaganda that Trump has shared in recent weeks.” he said.

Tapper later welcomed Sara Sidner, who noted the nods Trump has given to QAnon followers. Sidner also shared that the FBI expects more violence as QAnon grows.

“Insane,” Tapper concluded of Trump's pandering to the community despite clear dangers.

The segment comes after Tapper hosted an alarming CNN special report on the January 6th investigation on Sunday, during which the anchor and Washington correspondent conducted interviews with key figures including Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Rusty Bowers.

MEDIA LOSER:
Bret Baier

Bret Baier pushed the president of Fox News to rescind the election night call of Arizona for President Joe Biden amid pressure from former President Donald Trump’s campaign, according to a new book.

Peter Baker and Susan Glasser's forthcoming book The Divider, which Mediaite obtained on Tuesday, reported that Baier — who was on the anchor desk for Fox’s 2020 election night coverage — was so alarmed by the backlash to the early call that he emailed Fox News prez Jay Wallace days after the election.

“This situation is getting uncomfortable. Really uncomfortable. I keep having to defend this on air,” Baier wrote. He accused the Decision Desk of standing by the call because of “pride” and added: “It’s hurting us. The sooner we pull it—even if it gives us major egg—and we put it back in his column the better we are in my opinion.”

The fact that Baier was calling on Fox News to not only rescind the call, but to declare Trump the winner of Arizona, was “stunning,” wrote Baker and Glasser.

Regardless of what you think of the Fox News call for Arizona -- which ended up being correct -- the email from Baier, perhaps Fox's top news anchor, is indeed stunning.

Bair pushed back on the reporting in a statement issued by a spokesperson on Tuesday.

The anchor claimed the reported email was missing context. Glasser issued her own statement pointing out that Baier never denied the accuracy of the email's content.
