Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart grilled former U.S. Army General and CIA Director David Petraeus on the nation's unchanging foreign policy, calling it the “undefeated” military-industrial complex and highlighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

On Friday's episode of The Problem with Jon Stewart, Petraeus, who ran the Afghanistan war effort for a time, claimed the decades spent in Afghanistan and Iraq “tempered enthusiasm” among the population for similar military actions and nation-building.

Stewart pushed back arguing the U.S. is not taking its foot off the gas pedal when the Pentagon budget continues to increase. He went on to reject the notion that U.S. foreign policy is actually changing, as the Pentagon received a “raise” after the results of both wars.

Petraeus argued that the raise was because of "a return of great power rivalries and the need to transform the force,” referring to China and Russia, adding that the U.S. doesn’t act, another country will.

Stewart rejected Petraeus' argument by citing his own veterans' advocacyandpointing to the challenges the nation has supporting its own soldiers. The host helmed an impressive discussion on foreign policy with one of the key decision-makers on the topic.

MEDIA LOSER:
Media Figures Denying Carlson's Trump Hatred

Devotees of former president Donald Trump are taking the news that Tucker Carlson despises him hard, in fact, they're denying it altogether.

Evidence in the ongoing defamation lawsuit Dominion Voting Systems launched against Fox News revealed that while Carlson has often defended and lavished praise on Trump, he hated Trump “passionately."

Fans of both the most-watched cable news host on television and the former president are in denial about the authenticity of the messages and nature of the two’s relationship.

Charlie Kirk on Wednesday, seemingly unaware of the unearthed messages, claimed Carlson loved Trump in a now-deleted tweet.

Serial tweeter and Trump supporter Brigitte Gabriel speculated that the messages were not real, while Outkick host Curt Schilling replied by attributing the appearance of Carlson’s disdain for Trump to a robot’s interference.

Carlson himself has not denied writing those messages and has not addressed his private comments on Trump at all. Right-wing media hosts, however, are struggling to stomach his honest evaluation of Trump.
