Fox News' Tucker Carlson Tucker Carlson baselessly claimed Brazil’s presidential election was rigged and validated rioters who stormed government buildings in the capital city. Proclaiming election fraud over President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's win in October, scores of supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro stormed government buildings in Brasilia on Sunday, reminding observers of the 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. On Monday, Carlson, who also conducted a softball interview with Bolsonaro in June, told his audience unequivocally that Brazil’s election was “very clearly” stolen and that Lula is a "convicted criminal." Carlson was alluding to the fact that Lula, who was president from 2003 to 2011, was convicted of corruption.
However, Brazil’s high court annulled the convictions, which Lula said were politically motivated. Carlson then referred to those who stormed government buildings as mere “protestors" despite violent clashes with police and significant acts of destruction and vandalism.
