Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Martha MacCallum

Fox News’ Martha MacCallum challenged colleague Brian Kilmeade on his argument that little could be done by the government to stop mass shootings -- breaking from the media's usual partisan talking points.

Kilmeade began the segment by professing to be frustrated by efforts to politicize Monday’s school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, telling MacCallum that he was disappointed by those, including President Joe Biden, arguing that “the guns are the problem.”

After Geraldo Rivera engaged Kilmeade in a brief, but spirited debate over whether gun control measures would solve the problem, MacCallum declared, “We have a serious problem in this country, and we do see these weapons being used in these situations.”

She noted the complicated layers involved in these tragedies, highlighting the suicide rate among young American women, as the suspected Nashville shooter told a friend she was going to kill herself.

Kilmeade interjected to argue that only the child’s parents could do something to stop them.

MacCallum replied by submitting that there are not enough mental health facilities and resources to help these families.

"And yes, we need to raise serious questions about whether this person should be able to purchase these guns," she added.

After a continued back-and-forth, MacCallum concluded, “We need to have a comprehensive solution. It sounds so banal, I mean comprehensive solution, but this can’t happen to these children.”

MEDIA LOSER:
Tucker Carlson

Tucker Carlson is Mediate's loser for multiple reasons today.

To start, on Tuesday, Carlson declared the transgender community the “natural enemy” of Christianity because they “claim dominion over nature.”

Carlson cited Monday's school shooting in Nashville, during which a suspect who identified as transgender killed three children and three adults.

In addition to using the shooting to critique the trans community (instead of discussing gun laws), Carlson is also at the center of a new Dominion lawsuit bombshell.

Messages released as part of the voting company's $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News show Carlson raged in texts to his producers that Sidney Powell, who at the time was a lawyer for the Trump campaign, could not provide evidence for her increasingly loony allegations that the election was stolen.

He also called her a "c*nt."

Days earlier, Carlson also expressed fury with Powell over her false claims about the election, claims he had even questioned on the air of his prime time show. He repeatedly called her a "f*cking bitch," in addition to a "crazy person" and a "psychopath."

While Carlson raged against Powell’s claims in private, and challenged them to some extent on the air by demanding she provide evidence, he nonetheless lent credence to Trump’s absurd claims about the election throughout the aftermath of the 2020 race — and continues to cast doubt on the 2020 election to this day.
