Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Fox News' Howard Kurtz

Fox News’ Howard Kurtz pressed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) over her promotion of conspiracy theories in a confrontational interview Sunday.

Kurtz invited Greene on MediaBuzz after she functioned as one of Kevin McCarthy’s most vocal supporters throughout the chaotic and contentious vote for House speaker.

During the interview, Kurtz noted that Greene was stripped of her committee assignments in 2021 over her past violent political rhetoric and advocacy of absurd conspiracy theories.

Greene explained her history by telling Kurtz, "I had easily gotten sucked into some things I had seen on the internet," adding, "That’s not what I ran for Congress on. So, those are so far in the past."

While Kurtz declined to push Greene further on the topic, he later asked the representative if President Joe Biden was "legitimately elected."

Greene called the question "silly" despite failing to call the Biden presidency legitimate and instead noting, "Of course Joe Biden’s the president!”

While a simple question, Kurtz's inquiry was not "silly."

The interview emphasized that Greene, who will be restored to her committees and wields enormous influence among the GOP base, has notoriously been one of the biggest proponents of the false notion that the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump.

MEDIA LOSER:
Fox News' Maria Bartiromo

Maria Bartiromo, whose embrace of baseless stolen election claims in 2020 helped get Fox News slapped with two multi-billion dollar lawsuits, allowed Kari Lake to claim she is the rightful winner of the Arizona governor election in a new interview. (She's not.)

On Sunday, Bartiromo hosted Lake, a notorious election denier, for an interview on her Fox News show Sunday Morning Futures, proving she has learned nothing from the 2020 affair.

After claiming the election was stolen from her before it even took place, Lake launched a ridiculous and doomed attempt to overturn it. Her challenge was struck down in court and her opponent Katie Hobbs was sworn in as governor. Lake continues to insist she is the “the duly elected governor.” Again, she's not.

On Sunday, Lake claimed the left "sabotaged" her campaign for governor. Bartiromo did not confront Lake on that reality.

Instead, she asked: "How did they do it, and how far are you willing to take this lawsuit?”

In response, Lake put forward a series of debunked claims about the Arizona election being fraudulent, claims that went unchallenged by the anchor.

Rather than using the interview to challenge Lake, Bartiromo stuck to the journalism that got her listed as a defendant in Smartmatic’s $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox and some of its top anchors.
