Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Fox News' John Roberts and Sandra Smith

Fox News anchors John Roberts and Sandra Smith repeatedly pushed J.D. Vance, theRepublican senate nominee for Ohio, to lay out what he believes are “reasonable exceptions” to potential national or local abortion bans.

The conversation began with the Fox News anchors discussing recent polling data in Vance’s race against Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), which is surprisingly close in the now reliably red state.

"A lot of people say that divide is being driven by abortion,” noted anchor John Roberts after reading statistics from a Marist and Siena poll.

Roberts then turned his attention to Vance, noting that the candidate is in support of Lindsey Graham‘s 15-week ban on abortion.

"But where do you come down on the issue of exceptions to that? You know, in the case of rape, incest, or other particular exceptions,” Roberts asked.

Vance confirmed he was pro-life and brought up the notion of “reasonable exceptions" without elaborating on what those exceptions would be.

“So, what’s reasonable for you?” Roberts tried to interject, but Vance continued, steering the topic to inflation and crime.

Roberts tried again, but Vance failed to answer, prompting Smith to ask for a third time.

While the candidate never gave a straight answer, props to the anchors for continuing to push him on an important topic going into the midterm elections.

MEDIA LOSER:
New York Post

The New York Post had quite the morning after a rogue employee shared racist, offensive, and crass content on the outlet's website and Twitter page on Thursday.

"Devine: We must murder Joe and Hunter Biden," read one tweet, referring to columnist Miranda Devine, while another claimed Christopher Rufo said, "We must destroy and imprison Union teachers."

Other deleted tweets included horrific fake headlines about New York gubernatorial candidates Lee Zeldin and Kathy Hochul, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

The incident began on Thursday, around 9 a.m. ET, when the Post tweeted a supposed Ben Shapiro piece with the title “We must assassinate AOC for America.” Yikes.

The story was quickly deleted from the Post website, but many tweets remained.

In a statement to Mediaite, the Post said an investigation found the attack was carried out by a rogue employee — not a hacker as initially claimed -- meaning this could happen to any of us media outlets.

“The New York Post’s investigation indicates that the unauthorized conduct was committed by an employee, and the employee has been terminated,” they said.

“This morning, we immediately removed the vile and reprehensible content from our website and social media accounts.”

The paper said the employee has been fired, but unfortunately for the Post, the internet, including those "vile and reprehensible" tweets, is forever.
