Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Eric Bolling

Eric Bolling fired off some missives at Tucker Carlson over comments the Fox News host made about Russia and Ukraine last week.

Bolling, a former Fox News host, began by saying he’s concerned about the conflict escalating into a third world war.

“I am very worried about a world war, a nuclear World War III where nobody wins,” he stated. “So when I see a fellow conservative making statements that could incite a world war, a nuclear war. I have to call him out.”

The Newsmax host, whose show The Balance airs the time as Carlson’s, added, “You should know about it and maybe get to him and tell him to stand down.”

He then noted that clips of Carlson’s show have aired on Russian state television as propaganda.

“Last Thursday, Tucker Carlson again blamed Ukraine for starting the war,” Bolling said. “And he continues to claim America should cut off all funds and military support to Ukraine.”

Bolling aired a clip of Carlson’s show last week where the host said there was “no way” Ukraine would be able to win the war.

He also faulted Carlson for misleading viewers by mischaracterizing a Guardian article about the Western reaction to a potential Russian nuclear strike.

Carlson quoted a senior aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky calling on the West to strike Russian nuclear launch sites if Russian President Vladimir Putin “evens thinks” about using nuclear weapons.

“Well, that sounded odd even for a pro-Russia commentator like Tucker,” said Bolling, who noted the entire framing of the article centered on a response to a potential nuclear strike.

“Did he just miss that little, yet very contextual-changing word, ‘respond’? Or was that Freudian on his part?”

Bravo for taking a shot at your former employer and calling out Carlson for touting fake news to his viewers, despite him being fellow conservative.

MEDIA LOSER:
Tristan Snell

Tristan Snell, a former New York assistant attorney general, suggested Maggie Haberman is guilty of a felony on Tuesday.

The lawyer, who has appeared on MSNBC and CNN to deliver legal analysis and has 294,600 followers on Twitter, accused Haberman of a crime in a post that now has more than 12,300 retweets and 64,000 likes.

The tweet comes as Haberman once again draws the wrath of liberal Twitter. This time, it’s for revealing in her upcoming book that, in an interview with Donald Trump last year, the former president said he had taken documents from the White House.

Based on that information, Snell appears to be arguing Haberman knew that Trump had committed the crime of taking classified documents from the White House to Mar-a-Lago. By not reporting that crime to authorities, the theory goes, she is guilty of misprision, a felony.

While Snell allowed for a few caveats in subsequent tweets, he did call for the prosecution of journalists based on an ambiguous book excerpt.

Mediaite's Aidan McLaughlin spoke to First Amendment lawyer Ken White about whether Haberman could be guilty of a felony, as Snell seems to believe and thousands on Twitter seem to agree with.

According to White, "Federal misprision of a felony is not simply failing to report a felony you learn about. It requires an affirmative act to conceal the fact that a federal felony has been committed."

"So Haberman, by learning of alleged crimes by Trump, did not commit federal misprision unless she took affirmative steps to conceal not just that she knew, but conceal that Trump committed a crime — like destroying evidence or preventing a witness from coming forward," he added.

Fortunately, despite the bloodlust of a shocking quantity of liberals on Twitter, and Snell's alarmingly incorrect take, Maggie Haberman will not be going to prison for her reporting on Trump. The book tour can continue apace!
