MEDIA WINNER: Ari Melber
Ari Melber topped MSNBC's ratings in January, helming the network's highest-rated show and the 14th-highest overall.
Although Fox News continued its dominance over the cable news industry last month, with 1.35 million average total viewers, MSNBC was up 7 percent year over year, bringing in 703,000 average total viewers in January.
MSNBC's average easily earned them second place, as CNN earned just 524,000 total average viewers in January.
And while Fox had the top 13 rated shows for the month, Melber's The Beat was the first non-Fox show to appear in the rankings, meaning he topped everyone at his network -- along with the entirety of CNN's lineup. Melber's show, along with five other MSNBC shows, also beat Fox & Friends and Fox News at Night.
Lawrence O’Donnell, Chris Hayes, Nicolle Wallace, and Alex Wagner rounded out MSNBC’s top-five rated shows after Melber – in that order.
On Jan. 26th, Melber drew the highest ratings in the advertiser-coveted 25-54 age demographic on his network and on CNN with 162,000 viewers.
Last month, CNN's Oliver Darcy also reported that Melber's The Beat has crossed one-billion views on YouTube -- a rare feat for a cable news show.
In addition to his January numbers, Melber has been consistently pulling in impressive traffic for months.
He regularly draws in impressive numbers despite not having a prime time slot, and often outpaces CNN and the rest of MSNBC's lineup. |
