MEDIA LOSER: The View's Joy Behar Joy Behar suggested Dr. Mehmet Oz, the Republican nominee for senate in Pennsylvania, violated the Hippocratic oath by running harsh campaign ads against Democrat John Fetterman. Behar made the comment on Wednesday's The View, as the hosts discussed Tuesday night's Pennsylvania senate race debate. Fetterman, who suffered a stroke just before winning the Democratic primary, struggled at times to express himself and many observers and pundits saw the debate as a disaster for his campaign. After Sarah Haines weighed in on a clip of Oz discussing abortion rights,Behar jumped in and steered the co-hosts away from Tuesday night's buzzworthy debate. Noting that Oz is a doctor, Behar went on to slam the Republican candidate for potentially violating the Hippocratic oath. “The Republican Party is running a bunch of ads about showing Fetterman stumbling on things because of the stroke. What kind of a doctor is behind that, aren’t they supposed to do no harm?” she said. “It’s so unsympathetic to the guy, you know?” Behar went on to label Oz as a "very slick" "TV guy," adding, "He’s like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. At this point, I don’t know which one is the real Dr. Oz, but voting for the slick person on TV is like voting for me." Regardless of one's thoughts on Oz, it is ridiculous to accuse the candidate of violating a code of ethics simply because he ran harsh ads against his political opponent. It's pretty clear that the ads do not pose a physical risk to Fetterman, despite the fact that they call attention to his medical history. A candidate's recent stroke is also an entirely appropriate subject to scrutinize weeks before an election. |
