Tech startup aiming for turbulence-free flights

It affects comfort and safety, so a solution would be very welcome

With research suggesting climate change is leading to an increase in flight turbulence, an Austrian startup is working on technology that it claims can beat the bumps.

Turbulence Solutions gained wider attention this week after a video highlighting the technology racked up more than 3.5 million views on X.

The system comprises sensors, lidar, and flight control software that works together to reduce the effects of turbulence by measuring, predicting, and mitigating choppiness, Flying reported.

Andras Galffy, the startup’s founder and CEO, said he wants to bring the system first to smaller aircraft, including electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for future urban mobility services.

Turbulence Solutions has already obtained a U.S. patent for its design and has tested the system on board a crewed demonstrator aircraft.

The five-year-old startup has promised to explain more about its work in a Q&A on X Spaces soon ...

Netflix brings computer and TV gaming beta to U.S.

The streamer has mainly focused on casual gaming for mobile devices, but it's now bringing high-end titles to computers and TVs

Netflix has announced it’s expanding its limited streaming beta for video games to subscribers in the U.S.

The feature, which lets you play cloud-based games on TVs and computers, launched for users in Canada and the U.K. in August.

In line with the original test, only two games will be available to stream for now, namely Oxenfree, a supernatural adventure game, and Molehew’s Mining Adventure, a gem-mining arcade game.

On computers, Netflix subscribers can play the games via the web using a mouse and keyboard, while on TVs a virtual smartphone-based controller is needed.

Netflix is taking it slow with this side of its ongoing gaming push, but bringing it to a much bigger market suggests it’s making progress. The development increases the likelihood of more games being added and an expansion to more countries in the coming months ...
