Austal delivers fifth Guardian patrol boat, gifted to Solomon Islands

Twelve Pacific Island nations including Papua New Guinea, Fiji, the Federated States of Micronesia, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Cook Islands, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau, Samoa, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Timor Leste will receive the vessels over a four year period as part of the Federal Government’s $2 billion Pacific Maritime Security Program. Five Guardian class patrol boats have been delivered in the last 12 months.

The project supports more than 200 direct jobs at Austal Australia and more than 200 indirect jobs through Australian support industries involved in the project.

TAFE Partnership with Rio Tinto delivers an Australian first

The partnership aims to ensure Western Australian workers are prepared for industry advancements, innovation and automation. Pending successful completion of the pilot with 30 Rio Tinto staff, the first course will start in 2021. The course will give students the knowledge and skills to work at some of Australia's top-tier automation facilities, such as Rio Tinto's Remote Operations Centre in Perth.

Assisting SME's and attracting investment

As part of the WA Government’s push to assist SME’s and attract investment into the state, Invest and Trade Western Australia is a new online portal for investors and customers interested in doing business with Western Australia.

Lunching in early 2020, Invest and Trade WA will provides vital information and support for WA's export-ready small and medium-sized enterprises who want help to reach their export potential. Invest and Trade WA will deliver a collaborative, responsive and client-focussed service that makes connections between businesses and investors, expanding and diversifying the economy.

The Invest and Trade WA team is located in the State's economic development agency, the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, and will work across government to capture and respond to investment and trade opportunities.
