The City is sponsoring a limited number of scholarships for residents and/or business owners and operators in the City of Cockburn to experience a five and a half-day intensive program, blending practical teaching sessions, expert clinics and mentoring sessions. The program is for founders of an early-stage business or those with an idea for a new or improved product or service and a passion for developing that idea into a real business.
You could be: Thinking of starting a novel business; Currently employed or at home and looking to propel your idea; Student, graduate or academic considering your own venture; Owner, founder or senior manager of an existing business considering; diversification of products and markets, or a new venture. Ignition Perth will run from Sunday 5 September to Friday 10 September 2021.

No approval required for home office/occupation A Home Office and Home Occupation no longer require planning approval from the City of Cockburn. This is due to amendments to the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015, which came into effect on 15 February 2021.
What is a Home Office?
A Home Office means a home occupation limited to a business carried out solely within a dwelling by a resident of the dwelling but which does not – entail clients or customers travelling to and from the dwelling; involve the advertising signs on the premises; or require any external change to the appearance of the dwelling. What is a Home Occupation? A Home Occupation means an occupation carried out in a dwelling or on land around a dwelling by an occupier of the dwelling which: does not employ any person not a member of the occupier's household; will not cause injury to or adversely affect the amenity of the neighbourhood; This Information Sheet clarifies further differences between the land uses. Please note that Home Businesses will still require planning approvals. |

| The Small Business Lockdown Assistance Grants program will provide assistance of $2,000 to small businesses in the Perth and Peel region in industry sectors most severely impacted by the recent three day lockdown and subsequent restrictions. The grants are intended to offset some of the direct costs of the lockdown and business closure, such as loss of perishable goods or cancellations. The program will assist a wide range of businesses impacted by the lockdown, including: Cafés and restaurants, pubs & taverns Hairdressing and beauty services Florists Bakeries Specialised food retail Food wholesalers Creative industries and performing arts venues Event equipment hire. Eligible businesses must have an Australia-wide payroll of less than $4 million and be registered for GST, unless they have an ATO exemption. They should also be able to demonstrate losses incurred for perishable goods, cancellations or other unforeseen costs as a result of the ANZAC Day long weekend lockdown and subsequent restrictions. |
