The latest insights from CDP, the global environmental disclosure system

When measuring a company’s total environmental impacts and risks, the entire value chain must be considered. As the world works towards a green recovery from COVID-19, supply chain engagement has never been more important: our new report finds that supply chain emissions are on average 11.4 times higher than operational emissions and corporate buyers face substantial costs from environmental risks in supply chains. Supply chain engagement is crucial for companies to bounce back – competitive and resilient – in a rapidly changing market. In the lead up to COP26, all companies must join the leaders taking action.

Transparency to transformation: CDP calls for a supply chain reaction

Analyzing data from more than 8,000 companies, our new CDP Global Supply Chain Report 2020 finds that environmental supply chain risks will cost companies $120 billion by 2026 – and that supply chain emissions are on average 11.4 times higher than operational emissions. By cutting emissions, companies cut costs: in 2020, suppliers’ activities cut emissions by 619 million tonnes of CO2e – and saved US$33.7 billion in the process. Find out more about how businesses are engaging their suppliers on climate change, deforestation and water security.
