The biggest misconception about Dubai is that you need to spend big to eat well.

Okay, I admit, the gold-covered burgers and caviar-on-chicken nuggets that are making the rounds on social media aren't helping, but in our opinion, Dubai’s real flex is serving world-class flavour at wallet-friendly prices.

This city is home to a treasure trove of dishes that punch way above their price tag.

Like the sfeiha Yafawiyeh at Mamaesh. If you’ve never tried it, consider this your official invitation. These golden, spiral-shaped Palestinian pastries are little flavour bombs packed with spiced ground lamb. For Dhs16, you get one the size of a baseball alongside a pot of yoghurt.

If you're into Mexican, you'll love the wallet-friendly eats at Tacosita. With prices between Dhs39 and Dhs46, Tacosita delivers without breaking the bank, and the flavour goes hard. I’m team birria tacos for Dhs39. Slow-cooked beef, rich consomé, total obsession. And yes, I’m getting that iced hibiscus tea on the side. Always.

My neighbourhood joint,Raju Omlet, slaps when it comes to a budget breakfast. Dhs9 for a half-fried egg that's spiced just right, a fluffy Bombay pav and a cup of karak (obviously).

And finally... Dampa. The ultimate (and we don't use this word lightly) budget eatery. The OG seafood fest spot and the most delicious sauce you'll ever taste off a crab leg. Order almost any seafood item from the Dampa menu for under Dhs50, and it comes with unlimited white rice. Or go crazy and get a seafood dump. It’s only Dhs176 for three people after all. That’s Dhs59 per person. Not bad... not bad at all.
