BY ADAM DAIGLE | Acadiana Business Editor If you're waiting for the official news that Buc-ee's is going to open a Lafayette location, you're out of luck. But since these deals take lots of time, negotiations and input from several people, steps are needed to reach that official status. Exhibit B: The special taxing district. The Lafayette City Council OK'd the deal last night which creates a special taxing subdistrict on the store, essentially allowing up to a 2% sales tax on anything bought at the store. That means that customers — let's be honest here, it will mostly be out-of-town customers — would pay 10.45% sales tax with that 2% added on top of current sales taxes. What's next? Once the company signs the deal to purchase the land, that's when it will be official. Stay tuned. You can read Megan Wyatt's full story here. Have a great day and thanks for reading. |
