Good evening When we think back over the past few months, most folk would agree we have seen some amazing gestures by ordinary people. In fact, we will be celebrating them on July 11 with our Big Thank You project to recognise some of the key workers who have ensured the rest of us were cared for, fed, got our post and had our bins emptied during lockdown. And yet, as we start to emerge back into society, some people have immediately gone back to their old ways - or worse. There have been some shocking pictures of litter left by people in parks and beaches after enjoying a post-lockdown day out. Throughout my childhood, there were huge anti-litter campaigns, culminating in the Wombles who encouraged us to look after our neighbourhoods as they did Wimbledon Common. Have we all forgotten those lessons - or do we have a new generation who, while talking about the scourge of plastic and global warming, don’t care about leaving litter behind wherever they go? We need a new campaign to stop this trend from getting worse - before we all drown in a sea of litter.
