Brigard Urrutia is pleased to announce that it has appointed four new partners. Our new partners are experts and highly recognized attorneys in their respective practice areas, which include, Tax, Banking and Financial Services, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, and Infrastructure and Public Utilities. Carlos Umaña, Brigard Urrrutia’s Managing Partner, highlighted “the appointment of these new partners is the conclusion of a thoughtful and careful process, where we sought to bring to our Firm’s leadership a group of outstanding individuals and leading professionals in their respective fields. In this way, we have strengthened strategic practice areas of the firm”.

María Catalina Jaramillo

María Catalina joined the firm in 2007 and is currently member of the tax practice. She advises national companies on national and international tax planning, as well as in national and local tax and administrative litigation including transfer pricing disputes. María Catalina has been an integral part of the team, supporting the growth of the tax practice in recent years. In particular, she has driven the startup and development of Brigard Urrutia’s tax litigation practice.

María Catalina obtained her law degree from the Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Bogota, where she had the privilege of being granted a scholarship for her excellent academic performance. She was also exempted from all of her end of program final exams. She has been recognized as one of the leading women in the tax litigation practice.

María Catalina holds a graduate degree in Colombian Taxation from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. She is a member of the Colombian Tax Law Institute (ICDT), and of the International Fiscal Association (IFA).

Claudia Navarro

Claudia joined the firm in 2010 and is currently member of the practice of Infrastructure and Public Services and of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. In her professional career, she has advised national and international companies in all the activities related to the conventional and non-conventional chain of energy and natural gas, from projects structuring through to BOOMT, EPCs, PPAs, connection contracts, and all matters related to the activities of generation, transmission, distribution and commercialization of energy and the activities of production, transport, distribution and commercialization of natural gas.

Claudia obtained her law degree from Santo Tomas University, and she holds a postgraduate degree in Public Management from Los Andes University and Contractual Law from Externado University. In addition, she holds a Master’s Degree in Constitutional Law from the Centro de Estudios Políticos y Constitucionales de Madrid and she holds a Phd Degree in Law from the University Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid.

As part of her academic activity, she is currently Professor at the Faculty of Law – Dirección de Educación Continuada of Los Andes University, she is also Professor in the postgraduate course of State Contracting of Rosario University.

Andrés Hernández

Andrés joined the firm in 2008 and is currently member of the Tax and Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency practice groups. He advises national and foreign clients in acquisitions, corporate restructurings and complex project financing. He has been fundamental in strengthening the group’s leadership in tax matters related to international transactions, real estate, project financing and renewable energies, among others.

Graduate student of the School of Law of Pontificia Universidad Javeriana with a graduate degree in Administrative Law from Universidad del Rosario, he earned his LL.M degree in International Taxation from the New York University School of Law. While in New York, Andrés acted as legal counsel for Latin American issues for a real estate investment platform.

César Felipe Rodríguez

César joined the firm in 2012 and is currently member of the Banking and Financial Services Group and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Group. He focuses on representing borrowers, sponsors and lenders in the development and financing of large scale energy and infrastructure projects. He also has extensive experience in general financing transactions.

César obtained his law degree from Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá). He obtained an LL.M in International Business Law from the University of Liverpool (UK), a specialization degree on Financial Law from Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá) and a specialization degree on Civil Procedural Law from Universidad Externado (Bogotá).
