It may please some LSU football fans. It may bother others. But either way, LSU football coach Brian Kelly was at TPC Louisiana on Monday, taking part in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans' Monday pro-am. Kelly, whose Tigers wrap up spring practice Saturday with the annual Spring Game, played with former Tiger golfer Ben Taylor, who sank the clinching putt when LSU won the 2015 NCAA championship. Might Taylor's touch rub off on Kelly and the 2023 LSU football team? Couldn't hurt, right? Either way, the outing shows that Kelly is a coach comfortable in his own skin, confident that things are going well enough with his reigning SEC West champions that he can take half a day and go enjoy some golf on a brilliant blue South Louisiana spring day. The Zurich Classic starts officially Thursday. Meanwhile, the LSU baseball team (29-6) remains No. 1 in the major polls going into Tuesday night's game at Alex Box Stadium with UL, but is only sixth overall in the highly competitive SEC after taking two of three over the weekend from Kentucky. The Tigers took the series in part due to Jared Jones' offense in Saturday's 7-6 win. Jones belted two home runs, but got a warning from the home plate umpire after the second for his celebration. Why did he get a warning? Our Leah Vann explains. The basketball transfer portal continues to hum along like a giant engine, pulling in players and depositing them elsewhere (Like the imagery? I thought it wasn't bad). Monday, LSU men's basketball had them coming and going, with the official arrival of center Will Baker and the destination for former LSU guard Adam Miller. KJ Williams was a big name in the portal last year, following LSU coach Matt McMahon from Murray State. Williams is now playing professionally, having been named to the all-tournament team in the prestigious Portsmouth Invitational. Finally, LSU softball is trying to bounce back from a series loss at Auburn with a win Tuesday at McNeese State. We've given you our all, folks. That's all the news that's fit to print ... or take up bandwidth. We'll be back with more tomorrow, with bulletins if coach Kelly has any good golf tips for us. Until next time, Scott Rabalais |
