As much as it has become a season to remember for the LSU Tigers, it has been a season to forget for Texas A&M. The Aggies come into Saturday's regular season finale in College Station against No. 6-ranked LSU (that's where A&M was in the preseason AP poll) with a 4-7 record and 1-6 mark in SEC play. Conversely, the Tigers are 9-2 and 6-1 and headed to the SEC Championship Game next week. The two team's fortunes couldn't be more different. Naturally, like most coaches, LSU's Brian Kelly is still playing up the Aggies' ability despite their record. “They don't have the wins that they wanted,” Kelly said Monday, “but all they need is one, and that's to beat LSU.” That story is what we call a main bar. Now check out our LSU notebook, where we talk about Jayden Daniels' flu, redshirting players and the Tigers' running back situation for this week and going forward. Texas A&M's dismal season reminds me of that old Texas phrase: "All hat, no cattle." The Aggies, for all their big talk and big spending, still find themselves with the worst record in the SEC. Where does A&M go from here? I speculate in today's column. A big part of the A&M speculation is whether Jimbo Fisher will hire someone to call offensive plays. A good hire can make all the difference, like LSU defensive coordinator Matt House, who Monday was named a semifinalist for the Broyles Award. Find out why Kelly isn't stressed about House packing up house and moving on after this season. LSU will be a big favorite Saturday to win its first game at A&M's Kyle Field since 2016. How big? Well click right here to place your bets, er, find out. Finally, a little basketball. The LSU men's basketball team turned in an impressive performance in the Cayman Islands on Monday. Meanwhile, the LSU women's team is up to No. 12 in this week's AP poll, but what's with that soft schedule? Thank you again for subscribing and staying with us all season. There's still plenty left, so keep reading and tell a friend. It could be your Christmas present to them. Scott Rabalais |
