BREAKING: The House passes a stopgap funding bill to avert a government shutdown

The Republican-led House narrowly passed a stopgap funding bill to avert a government shutdown ahead of a Friday night deadline, sending it to the Senate, where its fate is uncertain.

The vote was 217-213, with all but one Republican supporting the measure. One House Democrat voted for it.

For it to pass through the Senate, Republicans will need some support from Democrats, who have been critical of the bill to fund the government through the end of September.
