| The House approved legislation Thursday to fund the federal government through Dec. 22, putting the onus on the Senate to pass it before the money runs out at midnight Friday, forcing a government shutdown. The Senate was considered likely to pass the bill, and President Trump said he would sign it. Even so, the extension is so short that the pressure to come up with a long-term spending bill will continue unabated.
