Firing squad executes Brad Keith Sigmon in South Carolina

Death Row inmates can choose among firing squad, electric chair and lethal injection for their executions. If they don't select one, the default is the electric chair.

Friday's execution was the first by firing squad in modern South Carolina history and only the fourth in the U.S. since 1977.
