| If only LSU could run the football. That’s what Ed Orgeron and every LSU fan has to be thinking coming off Saturday night’s 24-19 loss to Auburn at Tiger Stadium. It’s shocking that LSU can’t find a way to run the ball at this point in the season. The Tigers have yet to clear 100 yards rushing in a game with a season high of 91 coming against an FCS opponent in McNeese State. The Tigers managed just 29 yards on 25 carries against Auburn. LSU had a shot to beat Auburn even with an offense completely devoid of a rushing attack, but it was a tall task for QB Max Johnson to close out the win in the fourth quarter without the ability to run precious time off the clock by handing the ball off. Johnson completed 26 of 46 passes for 325 yards, one touchdown and an interception in the fourth quarter on his final attempt of the game. On Saturday, it was Auburn's Bo Nix who turned in the game-winning performance at quarterback a week after being yanked in the second half. Over the last four games, it seemed as if LSU had a step up in competition each week. The next game will be no different with the Tigers traveling to take on an undefeated Kentucky team (5-0, 3-0) fresh off a 20-13 win over Florida in Lexington. Saturday night’s fourth-quarter collapse only served to make Orgeron’s situation even more precarious as the LSU head coach. Whatever pressure Orgeron relieved by beating Mississippi State last week, the heat is back on for the Louisiana native. There are still pieces in place on defense and in the passing game on offense, but there’s still a lot of room for improvement for LSU. Enjoy your Sunday slate of NFL action.
