| Nobel Prize in Literature The Nobel Prize in Literature 2024 was awarded to Han Kang, "for her intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life." Han Kang had just finished dinner with her son at her home in Seoul when she received the news. Han Kang (born November 27, 1970) is a South Korean writer best known for the novel The Vegetarian, which traces a woman's mental illness and neglect from her family. In 2016, in its English translation, it was the first Korean language novel to win the International Booker Prize for fiction. Kang studied Korean literature at Yonsei University. In 1998 she was enrolled at the University of Iowa International Writing Program. Kang is also a musician and interested in visual art, and her work often reflects this multi-disciplinary focus. | Ramona Emerson Ramona Emerson is a Diné writer and filmmaker originally from Tohatchi, New Mexico. She has a bachelor's in Media Arts from the University of New Mexico and an MFA in Creative Writing from the Institute of American Indian Arts. As a police department photographer in Alberquerque, New Mexico, she spent 16 years documenting crime scenes before becoming a novelist. She is an Emmy nominee, a Sundance Native Lab Fellow, a Time-Warner Storyteller Fellow, a Tribeca All-Access Grantee and a WGBH Producer Fellow. Check out her books here |
