 | Lifestyle Books What constitutes a lifestyle book? It's the kind of book that helps you engage in hobbies, in curiosities, in hyper-specific interests or interests. These are nonfiction books that can be narrative (though often they are not). Lifestyle nonfiction offers up a wide range of interesting books that don't always fit neatly under the umbrella of popular nonfiction-though, of course, some of them do become quite popular.  | Russell Banks Russell Banks, whose vivid portrayals of working-class Americans grappling with issues of poverty, race and class placed him among the first ranks of contemporary novelists, died on Sunday at his home in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. He was 82. His literary agent, Ellen Levine, said the cause was cancer. Born in Newton, Massachusetts, and raised in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, Banks was a self-styled heir to such 19th century writers as Nathaniel Hawthorne and Walt Whitman, aspiring to high art and a deep grasp of the country's spirit.
