A judge Wednesday reduced the bond for a relative charged in connection with the disappearance and death of baby King Jay Davila. Magistrate Judge Andrew Carruthers lowered Angie Torres' bond from $250,000 to $75,000. Torres, 45, has been in jail since January after the body of her 8-month-old nephew was found in a backpack buried in a shallow grave. She is charged with tampering with evidence for allegedly participating in a fake kidnapping and stolen car scheme to cover up the infant's death. During Wednesday's hearing, Torres' mother, Rosalinda Sampayo, testified that she could not afford the high bond. "I don't have any assets to sell or pawn, anything like that," Sampayo testified. Torres' sister, Sonia Torres, also testified that she could not pay the bail. But she promised to help her sister if she was freed on bond. "I'll take her wherever she needs to go and be there for her, emotionally, in every aspect," Sonia Torres testified. Following the women's testimony, Carruthers said, "The bond is reduced to $75,000, with global positioning with full house arrest." Torres also has a $50,000 bond in place in a separate, unrelated aggravated assault case.
