Everything happening in Toronto real estate this week
Dear reader, Toronto’s look is often characterized as messy urbanism. The city wasn’t designed with a unifying aesthetic like in, say, Paris. It was instead built piecemeal, with various clashing styles forced to coexist like in, say, Value Village—but what a Value Village! In this sense, Richmond West is a perfectly chaotic microcosm of the city. The stretch between Spadina and Niagara alone contains an arts haven carved from an old factory, the new-ish Waterworks Food Hall, the head-turning Ace Hotel, George Stroumboulopoulos’s house, a vintage shop hiding in a classic Victorian, an office tower that looks like a pillbox and the odd parking lot. Joining this architectural rogue’s gallery is Curb Appeal’s top post this week: a $4.6-million angular oddity with a six-stop elevator, a 78-bottle wine column and a two-car garage. Its design is eclectic, meaning it’s right at home on Richmond. Also in today’s newsletter: an Av-and-Dav new build with a fever dream bathroom. And a four-plus-two-bedroom indoor-outdoor oasis just south of York Mills. For all of our real estate coverage and more, visit torontolife.com or subscribe to our print edition. |

Check out this 5,000-square-foot detached right on Richmond in West Queen West. The home was constructed with 12 building code variances, making it a third larger than any other house in the neighbourhood. It comes with 14-foot ceilings, a finished basement, an elevator and a two-car garage—all ideal for an accessible multi-generational home. The spot is also within walking distance of Trinity Bellwoods Park, the many businesses along both King and Queen, and the 501 and 511 streetcars. And motorists are a short drive from both Lake Shore and the DVP. |

| What property overlooking Yorkville would be complete without a quarry’s worth of marble, a twisting staircase, 18-foot ceilings, curvy couches and a cloak room built for sneaker heads? |

| Here’s a prairie-style mansion in Banbury–Don Mills. It has a saltwater aquarium, two separate garages, 18 parking spots, a ruby-red bar, a ravine, a lily pond and 1.37 acres of land. And it’s currently going for $14.8 million. | |
