Bill proposes UL economic development district with taxing power

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette could become an economic development district able to levy taxes and build new facilities, like a performing arts center, under legislation introduced this week.

State Sen. Gerald Boudreaux of Lafayette filed Senate Bill 481 to create the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Economic Development District comprised of property owned by the university and "its affiliate entities."
