A bill allowing for billboards on public school property along state-managed roadways has cleared the Senate and is headed to Gov. Rick Snyder’s desk. The bill not only codifies into state law the Michigan Supreme Court's 2003 interpretation that public school districts are not subject to the local zoning codes, it doesn't necessarily limit public school land uses just to billboards. A tiny school district in Colorado has voted to allow teachers or other employees at its two schools to carry concealed handguns on the job if they volunteer to serve double duty as security officers in case of an emergency.
