The No. 1-ranked LSU baseball team achieved another successful milestone Friday. Behind some stout starting pitching from Kade Anderson and some heavy hitting from the likes of Derek Curiel and Jake Brown, LSU ran its record to 18-1 with a 12-5 win over Missouri in the teams' SEC opener at Alex Box Stadium. Weather permitting, the teams play game two of the series at 6 p.m. Saturday. The baseball Tigers hope that first SEC win will lead to a championship. The No. 2-ranked LSU gymnastics team already captured a title Friday night, winning 198.200-197.550 at Auburn to claim a share of the SEC regular-season championship with Oklahoma. Freshman Kailin Chio led the way for LSU with a perfect 10 on vault, just the second one of the season for the Tigers, who now head to the SEC Championships next Saturday in Birmingham. Back to Friday's baseball game, a game dedicated to Sandy Bertman, the wife of legendary coach Skip Bertman, who died Thursday at 87 after a lengthy illness. Our condolences to the Bertman family, still in so many respects the first family of LSU baseball. For details on Saturday's LSU-Missouri game, click here. Our Koki Riley also has a feature on a consideration for college teams to be able to challenge balls and strikes. No. 4 LSU softball also got off to a winning start in SEC play Friday, beating Kentucky 4-1 at Tiger Park. Many schools are changing the format of or doing away with their traditional spring football games, and LSU is among those that have followed suit. See what the Tigers have planned for April 12 instead. That's all from the wide, wide world of LSU sports, folks.
