Welcome, blockheads! Here's what's new.
Hey Everyone, Well-known teen activist Greta Thunberg caused quite a stir with her now famous "blah blah blah" speech two weeks ago, but I do wonder if environmental agencies are taking a victory lap after the latest update from the state of California. ...
The author of the above-linked Gizmodo article seems to think it's a good idea, but I can't help but wonder what science convinced California lawmakers that out of all the high polluting industries out there, gas-powered leaf blowers and lawnmowers are the biggest culprit. In the most recent report from the US Environmental Protection Agency showing the sources of greenhouse gas emissions, there are plenty of helpful suggestions about how people and industries could reduce their emissions, but oddly enough, no mention of lawnmowers. There was an oil spill that closed California's beaches just two weeks ago, and their big solution is to clean up the landscaping industry. From a political perspective, it makes perfect sense. It represents quick action, without upsetting powerful lobbying groups. What I mean is that nobody really cares about upsetting a bunch of gardeners. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for change, but like the great strawmageddon, this just seems like more green washing, in other words providing misleading information to appear environmentally friendly, to me.
Important announcements Sorry for the side rant above. We do try to keep these newsletters about the markets, but of course we do want to cover other areas of interest, and, as always, we welcome any and all feedback. The markets are mixed today, as bitcoin continues to test the upper bounds of the grand range we've been tracking from $30,000 to $60,000. Altcoins seem to be a mixed bag, and even the stock market is all over the place. U.S. inflation figures came in slightly higher than expected, but a 0.4% increase in the monthly consumer price index is certainly not something to write home about. What this newsletter really needs is some fresh opinions, which is why we are introducing a new writer. ... Evamarie Augustine has been working for Quantum Economics since the early days, providing top-notch research. I'm pleased to announce that she has now been promoted to Director of FinTech and will deliver a column for you each Thursday, covering this exciting sector and its investable trends. Here's hoping the rest of your day will be great!
