Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Dana Bash

CNN’s Dana Bash pressed Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) over his flip-flopping on ex-President Donald Trump, as he is now supportive of a possible Trump run in 2024.

Graham sat for a joint interview with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) on Sunday, during which Bash asked both senators to look ahead to the next American presidential election.

Since Graham now wants Trump to run for office again, Bash noted the senator once claimed to be done with Trump, and she rolled footage of Graham after the events of January 6.

After playing the clip, Bash asked, “Why now do you think Trump has the character to be president again?”

Graham responded by claiming his old remarks pertained specifically to his decision to certify President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory after the Capitol riot.

From there, Bash peppered Graham with questions about whether he wants to see Trump focus on 2024 instead of going on and on with his unsubstantiated 2020 election claims.

“I think we should look at election integrity measures to make sure some problems don’t happen again,” he answered. “If he runs for president, talking about 2020 is not what people want to hear."

After Graham went through a list of topics he believed Republican voters "want to hear about," Bash pressed the senator on if his message was “point blank, 'Donald Trump, please stop saying the 2020 election was stolen.'”

“I’m telling President Trump if you wanna be president in 2024, focus on solving the problems Americans are living with,” Graham answered.

Props to Bash for calling out Graham's reversal on Trump 2024, as he previously declared “enough is enough" for his support of the former president.

MEDIA LOSER:
NBC Sports Philadelphia

MLB all-time hits leader Pete Rose shared a profane anecdote about a “cock-high fastball” in a bizarre broadcast booth cameo, thanks to NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Rose, who played for the Philadelphia Phillies between 1979 and 1983, made an appearance in the network's booth on Sunday during the Phillies' home game against the Washington Nationals. Rose was on hand to take part in ceremonies honoring the 1980 Phillies, who won the World Series.

Speaking on the platform given to him by NBC Sports Philadelphia, Rose launched into a series of irreverent stories about his time in the league.

He talked about catching a foul ball during Game 6 of the 1980 World Series, joking that catcher Bob Boone was too slow to catch it because he acted as if he was carrying a piano on his back.

"It’s okay to carry a piano on your back, but don’t stop the play [you] son of a bitch, okay,” Rose said, later recalling catching the foul ball, and adding, “I had to watch out for the horseshit over there because the horses on the field.”

Moments later, Rose told a profane story about Cincinnati Reds teammate Tony Pérez joking that he hit a "cock-high fastball.”

To top it off, NBC Sports offered Rose access to the booth after he had already called Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Alex Coffey "babe" and scolded her for asking about sexual misconduct allegations from the 1970s.

“It was 55 years ago babe," he said to Coffey when confronted after the ceremony.

Perhaps NBC Sports should have reconsidered giving Rose the platform to go on a rambling rant after he had already made such a reprehensible comment.

"You weren’t even born," he continued. "So you shouldn’t be talking about it because you weren’t born.”

Photo dump

“Gross and important I think are the two important words here,” said Maggie Haberman — after Axios published photos she obtained showing documents with former President Donald Trump’s handwriting being flushed down the toilet.

The photos were published following a previous report from Axios’ Mike Allen, which claimed Haberman's upcoming bookrevealedTrump, as commander in chief, had a habit of flushing White House documents down the toilet.

Of course, Trump denied destroying documents meant for preservation by the National Archives, and he railed against the media over the story as per usual.

Now, Haberman has obtained photos of those torn-up White House documents, which she shared with Axios.

Haberman appeared on CNN’s New Day Monday to discuss her big toilet bowl scoop. The New York Times correspondent said that while some might be inclined to make light of the revelation, it is no laughing matter.

“It would still be a story if it was a fireplace,” Haberman said, referring to the instrument used to destroy the documents. “The point is about the destruction of records which are supposed to be preserved under the presidential records act, which is a Watergate-era creation.”

A minor league baseball team’s postgame show went horribly wrong when fireworks were accidentally launched into the crowd on Saturday night.

Shocking footage of the incident shows fans screaming and running away in fear as fireworks are seen flying into large groups of people.

The Rocket City Trash Pandas — the Los Angeles Angels affiliate team — later released a statement explaining that a firework product was incorrectly secured, causing them to veer off course.
