MEDIA LOSER: NBC Sports Philadelphia
MLB all-time hits leader Pete Rose shared a profane anecdote about a “cock-high fastball” in a bizarre broadcast booth cameo, thanks to NBC Sports Philadelphia.
Rose, who played for the Philadelphia Phillies between 1979 and 1983, made an appearance in the network's booth on Sunday during the Phillies' home game against the Washington Nationals. Rose was on hand to take part in ceremonies honoring the 1980 Phillies, who won the World Series.
Speaking on the platform given to him by NBC Sports Philadelphia, Rose launched into a series of irreverent stories about his time in the league.
He talked about catching a foul ball during Game 6 of the 1980 World Series, joking that catcher Bob Boone was too slow to catch it because he acted as if he was carrying a piano on his back.
"It’s okay to carry a piano on your back, but don’t stop the play [you] son of a bitch, okay,” Rose said, later recalling catching the foul ball, and adding, “I had to watch out for the horseshit over there because the horses on the field.”
Moments later, Rose told a profane story about Cincinnati Reds teammate Tony Pérez joking that he hit a "cock-high fastball.”
To top it off, NBC Sports offered Rose access to the booth after he had already called Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Alex Coffey "babe" and scolded her for asking about sexual misconduct allegations from the 1970s.
“It was 55 years ago babe," he said to Coffey when confronted after the ceremony.
Perhaps NBC Sports should have reconsidered giving Rose the platform to go on a rambling rant after he had already made such a reprehensible comment.
"You weren’t even born," he continued. "So you shouldn’t be talking about it because you weren’t born.” |
