Opening day for LSU baseball Friday may have been a bit drippy and gloomy weather wise. For LSU baseball fans, though, that didn't matter one bit. All that mattered was that their favorite sport was back in action, as the 2023 College World Series champions took the field against VMI. The game itself was a bit choppy for the Tigers in terms of pitching and some of the hitting at times. But in the end, it was a season opening win as the Tigers went to 1-0 with an 11-8 victory over the Keydets at Alex Box Stadium. We've also got the info on Saturday's game with Central Arkansas, as well as a look at the most recent odds on LSU's chances of repeating as CWS champs. A baseball day game cleared the decks for LSU gymnastics Friday evening. The Tigers got a perfect 10 from Aleah Finnegan on floor and tied a school record on balance beam in a 198.300-197.100 win over Auburn. We've got a photo gallery from the meet as well. Men's basketball is dealing with a three-game losing streak and a bunch of close calls, but the Tigers don't get any sympathy from the schedule maker. LSU is back on the road Saturday at South Carolina, which has to be boiling after a 40-point rout at Auburn. More and more it seems the real world is intruding on our sports world. That was unforunately not truer than Wednesday when a deadly shooting erupted near the end of the championship parade in Kansas City for the Super Bowl champion Chiefs. Still, some stories emerge even from the worst of times to remind us of the good in people. One such story involved former LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who sheltered a child during the mayhem. Finally, the LSU track and field teams had an impressive start to their last tuneup before the SEC Indoor Championships, taking 10 titles in the LSU Twilight meet at the Carl Maddox Field House. That's all for now, folks. Thanks for reading and subscribing. Like Aleah Finnegan, we think you deserve a 10. Yes, I know that's pandering. I deserve a 10 for that, too. Scott Rabalais |
