Momentum is a difficult thing to reacquire in the Southeastern Conference once you've lost it. The LSU baseball team got a huge 10-6 win over Vanderbilt on Thursday night, a win that had a definite "must have" quality to it. The Tigers were leading the Commodores again 6-5 going to the eighth inning on Friday, but let the game slip away and turn into an 8-6 defeat. LSU still has a chance to take the series, which would be its first SEC series triumph in four tries, with a win at 2 p.m. Saturday against Vandy. But the Commodores are saving their ace, Carter Holton, to pitch in this one. As we said, momentum is tough to reacquire in the SEC once you've lost it. One last baseball item: our Koki Riley has a feature for you on Tigers second baseman Steven "Monster" Milam. Spring football rolls on toward next Saturday's LSU Spring Game, all with an eye toward preparing the Tigers for the upcoming season. Will LSU have Trey Holly available during the upcoming season? On Friday, a grand jury dropped second-degree murder charges against Holly. But our Wilson Alexander explains why Holly still faces legal issues. The mission is clear for the LSU gymnastics team: finish in the top two of the four-team NCAA Fayetteville Regional final at 5 p.m. Saturday at Arkansas' Bud Walton Arena. Do that and the Tigers are one of eight teams dancing on to the NCAA Championships in two weeks in Fort Worth, Texas. It's LSU, host Arkansas, Kentucky and Minnesota vying for those two spots. But these regionals can be trickier than they look, as LSU's regional appearance last year in Denver can attest. Our Reed Darcey has five questions to answer for LSU women's basketball as those Tigers settle into the offseason. And, no, in case you're wondering, one of them isn't "What was Gov. Landry thinking with all this national anthem business?" Speaking of that, LSU athletic director Scott Woodward has crafted a carefully worded response to Landry. You can read what it says right here. The No. 5 LSU softball team is back in action Saturday with yet another SEC series against yet another highly ranked foe, this time at No. 10 Florida. And, last but certainly not least (at least not to golf-loving old me), the final round of the Augusta National Women's Amateur is today. LSU's Ingrid Lindblad, the world's No. 1 women's amateur, is in a tie for fifth heading into play at Augusta National Golf Club, four off the lead. That's all for a Saturday morning, folks. If you're trying to follow the Tigers in any of these sports, there's no more comprehensive site to read/subscribe to than TheAdvocate.com/NOLA.com. We also do a fair amount of coverage of the Saints, Pelicans and preps as well. Enjoy your sports weekend, everyone. Scott Rabalais |
