| | A guide to grief
There are lots of reasons someone could be grieving, from the loss of a Baltimore tech CEO to being laid off or losing a friend. The one thing none of us is ever prepared for is loss —especially death, which can evoke grief. That's why we put together some ways to get support with unexpected feelings surrounding loss. To not be prescriptive, I wanted to speak with a few experts on the subject matter before rounding up some resources for Baltimore’s tech ecosystem and beyond. Other responsibilities left me without much time, but here are some pointers that draw from my own experiences: Check in with your feelings: Grief is a natural response to loss, and it's okay to feel a wide range of emotions. You deserve support: Don't go through grief alone. Reach out to friends, family or colleagues who can lend a listening ear. In Baltimore’s tech community, consider joining online forums like the Technical.ly Slack channel or a group text with friends. Self-care: I love Dr. Teal's products as a way to decompress at home. Maybe you could try to prioritize self-care during difficult times like this. It can be hard, but even just a cold rag on the back of the neck can help you unwind at the end of a tough day. Mindfulness and breathing: Practice your own mindfulness techniques or meditation to stay grounded and reduce stress. No matter what, make sure you take care of yourself at times like these.
