The transformative power of Presence is helping individuals in confinement connect and rediscover their true essence. Although challenging, finding internal freedom is possible, even within prison walls.

Last month, Eckhart, Kim Eng, and I visited the Los Angeles County Prison and the California Institute for Women to share Eckhart's wisdom with over 140 incarcerated people who had been reading The Power of Now and A New Earth.

During these intimate, live, in-person talks, Eckhart shared spiritual insights and pointers to transcend suffering and identify egoic patterns, and answered attendees’ questions about applying the teachings to their current life situations.

We toured the prisons to learn more about how we can further support this underserved community and recorded these sessions. Through our partnership with Edovo, these extraordinary talks will be made available to over 900,000 incarcerated individuals across the United States.

One participant shared, “Eckhart’s words helped me let go of my anger for the first time in years. I finally feel free, even here.” The transformation sparked by this work doesn’t remain within prison walls. Many individuals touched by these teachings have embraced them so fully that they’re inspired to share them, spreading ripples of awakening in their communities. One formerly incarcerated individual shared, “I’ve found a new way to live, and I want to help others find it, too.” These moments remind us that true freedom is not bound by external conditions but arises from a deeper connection to Presence.

Our Prison Outreach Initiative is made possible by the generosity of our donors, including the Satchitananda Foundation, as well as invaluable collaboration with organizations like the Anti-Recidivism Coalition, our partner for the prison visits, and Edovo, who helps us share the teachings digitally with incarcerated people in correctional facilities across the United States.
