Oct. 1, 2020 Here comes the frost. It’ll be colder across Minnesota tonight with clearing skies. Widespread frost is expected. Lows in the mid-20s up north to mid-30s further south. For Friday, partly sunny skies. Frost in the morning. Highs in the mid-40s to lower 50s. The Minnesota State High School League has approved a limited schedule of winter sports . The move comes on the heels of approval for a late fall start for football and volleyball. Practices for basketball, hockey, skiing, dance, gymnastics and other winter sports are expected to begin in late November and early December. The revised schedule includes a third fewer games and matches.
More people have died across the state from intimate partner-related violence this year than in all of 2019. That's according to Violence Free Minnesota, which publishes an annual report on domestic homicides. It says at least 21 people were killed last year. The majority of victims were women killed by current or former partners. Several family members, friends and bystanders also died. Latest on COVID-19 in MN: Newly confirmed cases in Minnesota topped 1,000. The 1,066 new cases came amid high testing volume — and the positive rate trended down a bit. Of the 100,200 cases of the disease confirmed in Minnesota to date, about 90 percent have recovered to the point they no longer need to be isolated.
