Xcel Energy reported more than 30,000 homes and businesses were without power
| | Sept. 17, 2021 A four-year-old girl has died after severe weather rolled through a Mankato campground overnight. The Mankato Department of Public Safety says that at 2:30 a.m. the girl was fatally injured when a tree limb fell on top of the tent she shared with her family. No one else was injured in the tent. A man camping in the area was injured during the storm and transported to a local hospital. His condition is unknown. Public safety director Amy Vokal says the girl's family was attending the annual Mahkato Wacipi , or powwow. "We also mourn that loss, the family is surrounded by caring people out at the powwow."
Meanwhile, because of the storms hitting other parts of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, thousands of homes were still without power Friday afternoon. Xcel Energy says it has more than 300 employees and contractors working to restore power with more crews on the way.
The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport reported a peak wind gust of 64 miles per hour and likely exceeded that in other areas.
