| The PAWS Workshop on Science Policy |

Where does science policy happen? Who is involved? What are key differences between scientists and policymakers, and how does that affect communications between the two groups? How does one get involved in this work? You will learn all this and more in this interactive 90-minute workshop, where we'll be asked to face a real-world science policy question and grapple with the pros and cons of potential solutions.
The Professional Advancement Workshop Series (PAWS) speaker is Marlit Hayslett, PhD. She is a communications trainer and consultant specializing in the science and technology sectors. She also has extensive experience working with policymakers in both the United States and the European Union. Prior to starting her own firm, Marlit taught research communication and science policy at the University of Virginia.

| The ExplOrigins 2023 Exploration and Origins Colloquium |

This colloquium will have a poster session on Thursday, Feb. 9th and talks on Friday, Feb. 10th. Talks and the poster session will be held in person at Georgia Tech, with a virtual viewing/ presenting option for talks. Our aim is to highlight early career researchers whose work explores, conceptualizes, celebrates, and discovers pieces of space, life’s origins, and astrobiology from any field in the Southeastern U.S. regional space science community.
Through this colloquium, we hope to forge relationships between diverse individuals of various fields, experience levels and backgrounds, to expand our internal awareness of local work and innovations, encourage collaboration and interdisciplinary understanding, and to provide a professional growth opportunity for early career individuals including undergraduates, graduates, and post-docs.

| Registration Open for the Astrobiology Introductory Course 2023 |

March 12th-18th | Register by Tuesday, January 31st
The 2023 session of the Rencontres Exobiologiques pour Doctorants (RED '23 / Astrobiology Introductory Course) will take place, from March 12 to 18, 2023 at the Reserve Ornithologique du Teich (France). These meetings are organized for students preparing a thesis and Postdocs in Earth and Universe Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Bioinformatics or History/Philosophy of Sciences. The school is also open to young researchers interested in astrobiology as well as students wishing to acquire an interdisciplinary training in astrobiology to complete their initial training and to be able to address questions related to the origins of life on Earth and beyond, its evolution and its distribution in the Universe.
Registration is open until January 31st, 2023. Some grants to participate are available.

| AbGradEPEC 2023 Symposium in the Canary Islands, Spain |

After the success of the joint Astrobiology Graduates in Europe (AbGradE) and the Europlanet Early Career Network (EPEC) symposium AbGradEPEC event at EPSC2022, AbGradE and EPEC are teaming up again for AbGradEPEC 2023! Taking place on the beautiful island of La Palma (Canary Islands, Spain) just before BEACON 2023, this symposium is open to all early career individuals and it will be a great networking opportunity, with the programme including contributed talks and posters, a workshop and an excursion. | Lewis & Clark Fund for Exploration & Field Research in Astrobiology |

Applications due by Wednesday, February 1st
The Lewis and Clark Fund is designed for field studies in any area of astrobiology research undertaken by graduate students, postdoctoral students, and early career scientists who are affiliated with U.S. institutions. Grants may be used for travel and related expenses, including field equipment, up to $5,000. Please note: there will be two competitions in 2023, in February and November. Beginning in 2024 applications will be due in November.

| The International Geobiology Course |

June 18th - July 23rd, 2023 | Applications due Friday, February 10th
Hosted by Penn State for the first time in 2023, the IGC features immersive training in geobiology based on field experiences in central Italy and at Green Lake, NY. Students will be instructed by and get to know leading scholars, and will gain hands-on experience using world-class geochemistry, biology, and materials research facilities on the Penn State campus.
Students will explore cave-forming microbial ecosystems, biosignatures in modern and ancient thermal springs, anaerobic phototrophy, how biology shapes carbonate sedimentation and marine platforms, and biogeochemical responses to catastrophic impacts and climate upheavals. Student will gain experience with state-of-the-art metagenomic methods, isotopic analyses, lipid and pigment biomarkers, imaging spectroscopy, microscopy, field methods, and computational and data analytical methods.

| The International Summer School in Astrobiology: Searching for Life on Ocean Worlds |

July 10th - 14th, 2023 | Applications due Wednesday, March 1st, 2023
The 2023 school will be focused on the exploration of ocean worlds orbiting the giant planets of our solar system. Moons such as Enceladus, Europa, Ganymede, and Titan are key astrobiological targets for future exploration. These moons contain global liquid water oceans underneath icy surfaces and provide a different astrobiological perspective from rocky worlds such as Mars. Ocean worlds present deep potentially habitable environments dominated by the physical processes of water and ice where life could exist in our Solar System.

| The Astrobiology Early Career Collaboration Award (ECCA) |

Applications due Monday, April 3rd, 2023
The ECCA offers research-related travel support for undergraduate, graduate students, postdocs, and junior scientists. Applicants are encouraged to use these resources to circulate among two or more laboratories supported by the NASA Astrobiology Program (see https://astrobiology.nasa.gov/research/astrobiology-at-nasa/), however any travel that is critical for the applicant’s research will be considered. Travelers must be formally affiliated with a U.S. institution. Requests are limited to $5,000.
