The Oil Center was Lafayette's first central business district and is part of the city's historic core, but it has not gotten the private investment that other areas of the city -- think downtown or River Ranch -- have had in recent years. But you can make the case for the Ochsner Lafayette General's $94 million that is almost compete as being a catalyst project for that area.

So now the question is: Will that spin off more private investment? The area is at a crossroads.
