Cristin Tierney Gallery exhibits Lorser Feitelson's line paintings from 1963-69 | | Art and industry in 1960s Italy explored in new exhibition at Tornabuoni Art, London | | Exhibition presents a series of Cibachrome prints from the 1980s by Joseph Rodriguez | Installation view. Photo by John Muggenborg. NEW YORK, NY.- Cristin Tierney Gallery is presenting Lorser Feitelson: Curvilinear, an exhibition of the artists line paintings from 1963-69. Curvilinear is the gallerys first solo exhibition of Feitelsons works, and the artists first solo show in New York in over ten years. Lorser Feitelson was a Los Angeles-based artist whose career reads as a mini-art historical survey, moving from Cubism and Post-Surrealism to biomorphic abstraction, hard-edge abstraction, and beyond. Spurred by the creative freedom that Los Angeles offered, with its lackat the timeof an established arts scene, Feitelson produced a wildly original body of work that is equal in importance to the early contributions of east coast contemporaries such as Ellsworth Kelly, Helen Frankenthaler, and Morris Louis. A critical member of the Abstract Classicists, he was part of a group of artists that championed geometric abstraction a ... More | | Dadamaino, Ricerca del colore. "African Mobilities: This is Not a Refugee Camp"' exhibition opens at Architekturmuseum der TU München | | Cristian Valsecchi appointed as General Manager of Fondazione Prada | | Ecstatic Vernacular: Morgan Lehman opens exhibition of works by Matt Kleberg and Erin O'Keefe | Shanty Megastructure © Olalekan Jeyifous. MUNICH.- The exhibition African Mobilities addresses the complex forms of mobility within Africa and the diaspora. In the current situation, in which international borders are being redrawn, managed and monitored by force, and in which individual countries are increasingly subject to the affects of capitalist profit cycles, it is time to look into architectural forms which respond to these supposedly set structures. African cities are presented here as sites of refuge, which in their rapid transformation are producing new architectural typologies, changes in infrastructure and a rapidly expanding interaction with digital technologies. In this context, African migration is seen both as a challenge and as an opportunity for rethinking architecture and urban planning. In preparation for this exhibition, over the past two years architects, town planners, film-makers, artists, social scientists and authors from Africa met at 8 different locations: Johannesburg, Harare, Kampala, Lagos, New ... NEW YORK, NY.- Responding directly to each other's work, photographer Erin O'Keefe and painter Matt Kleberg muse on issues of pictorial architecture, the slippery nature of spatial perception, and the pure pleasure of color and light. The conversations between the two artists leading up to this show ranged from Oaxacan textiles to Renaissance painting, effortlessness as an ends to the world as it is (or appears to be). I respond to Matts paintings because they always seem to set me up for something, and then bring me somewhere else completely. I feel destabilized, in a good way. He is able to mine a series of straightforward compositional strategies, and make them pay off in ways that feel utterly fresh and unanticipated, and slightly peculiar. There is also, in his work, the absolute unmitigated joy of the surface and the color, and the making of the thing, which is always very present, and in rich conversation with the curious ... More |

More The UK dance company putting a new spin on the art LONDON (AFP).- Whether in a wheelchair, on crutches or without any disability at all, performers from the Candoco company are giving London audiences a fresh twist on contemporary dance. The first performance explores the individual style of the seven Candoco dancers, while the second wittily examines prejudices and physical differences. "When you see movements with missing limbs, or shortened limbs, it makes you aware of how incredible the body is," added Clarke. Candoco was founded in 1991 by Celeste Dandeker, who wanted to focus on the artistic aspect of dance rather than the disabilities of some of the company's performers. Dandeker, herself ... More Thomas Dane Gallery opens Glenn Ligon's first solo exhibition in Italy NAPLES.- Glenn Ligon's first solo exhibition in Italy borrows its title from a line in Pier Paolo Pasolini's poem Ma Era L'Italia Nuda E Formicolante/But It Was a Naked and Swarming Italy, in which he depicts the privations and poetic possibility of the country during the post-war period. In the exhibition, Ligon features a new series of silkscreen and ink marker paintings based on abstracted letter forms, two neons which address the Neapolitan setting of the exhibition, and two paintings from his iconic Stranger series, made with oil-stick and coal dust, the text of which he transcribed from James Baldwin's 1953 essay Stranger in the Village. Unlike most of his other works on canvas, the silkscreen and ink marker paintings, which Ligon premieres in Naples, do not start with a specific text but with letters as their primary element.
