These days, few dare to tackle the king of pop art: he has already been the subject of hundreds of exhibitions and retrospectives. LOS ANGELES (AFP).- Marvel legend Stan Lee, who revolutionized pop culture as the co-creator of iconic superheroes like Spider-Man and The Hulk who now dominate the world's movie screens, has died. He was 95 years old. Lee, the face of comic book culture in the United States, died early Monday in Los Angeles after suffering a number of illnesses in recent years. BOSTON, MASS.- Jimi Hendrix's Ming Dynasty Chinese Buddha will be auctioned by Boston-based RR Auction. The Chinese bronze Buddha, personally owned and displayed by Jimi Hendrix in his New York apartment on West 12th Street in 1969 and 1970. Identified as a Chinese bronze figure of Budai from the later Ming period (1368-1644), the antique statuette. The Buddha was acquired directly from Stella Benabou Douglas, one of Hendrixs closest friends during the last years of his life. The former wife of record producer and Hendrix archivist Alan Douglas, she appeared in the 1973 documentary A Film About Jimi Hendrix. BERLIN (AFP).- German prosecutors on Monday charged a 59-year-old man for the theft of numerous objects, including diaries, stolen from the estate of the late Beatle John Lennon. The accused, identified as Erhan G., will face trial over charges of theft and fraud. He is accused of having received an advance of 785,150 euros in October 2014 from an auction house for the items that had been stolen from the New York apartment of Lennon's widow Yoko Ono. G. was arrested in Berlin last year. At the time, prosecutors said he had "given a broad confession" in the case. Beside Lennon's diaries, police last year recovered from the bankrupt Berlin auction house letters, postcards, drawings, a live recording of a Beatles concert, as well as the musician's glasses. He was 90. According to the Stratford Festival, a repertory theatre festival of which he was a founding member, Rain died in hospital near Toronto of natural causes Sunday morning. "Canadian theatre has lost one of its greatest talents and a guiding light in its development," the festival's artistic director Antoni Cimolino said in a statement. LONDON.- Taking just 30 minutes out of our daily lives for leisure activities could be the key to improved wellbeing, according to behavioural scientist Paul Dolan in Calm and Collected, a report published today by Art Fund. Art Fund is the national fundraising charity for art and the organisation behind the National Art Pass. Their study of the nations wellbeing found that people in Britain are neglecting their own happiness, facing unprecedented levels of anxiety over issues such as work, finances and future aspirations. A wellbeing allowance of 30 minutes spent each day engaging in activities such as visiting a museum or gallery, it concluded, can contribute to a greater sense of personal purpose and reduce feelings of anxiety. GENEVA (AFP).- Marie Antoinette's dazzling diamonds and pearls, unseen in public for two centuries, will go on sale in Geneva on Wednesday in what is being billed as one of the most important royal jewellery auctions in history. The treasures were secretly whisked out of Paris in 1791 as King Louis XVI, his queen and their children prepared to escape during the French Revolution. They are part of a major collection, held by the Italian royal House of Bourbon-Parma, that is being sold by Sotheby's auction house. LONDON.- A rare study for one of the most celebrated paintings of the First World War will appear in John Nicholsons Fine Painting Auction on November 28. It is the first time that the 1914 work, Study for Returning to the Trenches by Christopher Richard Wynne Nevinson (1889-1946), has appeared on the market for 45 years. PISTOIA.- The distinctive pulpit created by Giovanni Pisano (1230c. 1315), an early Renaissance masterpiece completed in 1301 in the church of Sant Andrea in Pistoia, Italy, will undergo a two-year, intensive monitoring program with stability studies followed by a conservation process thanks to support from Friends of Florence totaling 230,000 ($262,500). The first phase focuses on urgently needed procedures to close fissures in marble elements while enabling the study of how various components of the pulpita tour de force of sculpture and architectural designare attached to each other.
