Exhibition "Picasso Sculptor. Matter and Body" at the MPM © Museo Picasso Málaga. MALAGA.- Conceived and curated by Carmen Giménez, who was the first director of the Museo Picasso Málaga, this selection of sculptures presents the plurality of styles employed by Pablo Picasso to depict the forms of the human body, interpreting it in a range of formats and making use of every material available to him, including wood, iron, plaster, cement, and different metals such as bronze. For Picasso, the discipline of sculpture was not a secondary one within his output; rather he saw it as a means of expression comparable to painting, drawing, printmaking and ceramics given that, as he himself said, no art form is more or less important than any other. These languages and materials allowed him to express different aspects of his creativity. Although this facet of his work began to become both more significant and more extensive during the Cubist period, Picasso made sculptures from almost the outset of his lengthy artistic ... More |

(Mark Abramson/The New York Times) by Brooks Barnes and John Koblin NEW YORK, NY.- Its not just posturing: As screenwriters continue their strike against Hollywood companies, the two sides remain a galaxy apart, portending a potentially long and destructive standoff. Any hope that this would be fast has faded, said Tara Kole, a founding partner of JSSK, an entertainment law firm that counts Emma Stone, Adam McKay and Halle Berry as clients. I hate to say it, but its going to be a while. The Writers Guild of America, which represents 11,500 screenwriters, went on strike Tuesday after contract negotiations with studios, streaming services and networks failed. By the end of the week, as companies punched back at the union ... More | | Installation view. LONDON.- TJ Boulting announced the second solo show by Maisie Cousins. Walking Back To Happiness, exhibition dates 10 May - 17 June 2023, is a combination of her close-up and visceral photography with a new venture in AI and installation, that delves into the artists obsessive search for reliving childhood memories. Cousins is known for her sensual imagery that often repels as much as it attracts, with a riot of the bodily, flowers, insects, food and rubbish all seen in a cacophony of bright colours and often oozing textures. Her early work began as a view onto a macro world shot from her teenage bedroom or the kitchen table, but always finding an irreverent beauty in the curious wastelands of lifes crevices. RIGA.- The Art Museum RIGA BOURSE in Riga is hosting the exhibition Reflections of the Era presenting the works by 20th century Latvian artists from the Rietumu Banks painting collection. Every art collection has its historical origins. Rietumu Banks collection is only slightly younger than the bank itself, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022, and they can considered to be contemporaries. The art collection is comprised of works by European, American and Latvian artists. For the exposition of this exhibition, a selection of 20th century paintings by Latvian artists has been chosen, because it depicts the existential reality of this age, which is reflected in the European art tradition, but with a Latvian perspective and touch. It melds the emotions felt by the artist and the viewer, and it is about the passion to live, thanks ... More | | Installation view. Photography: Charles Benton. NEW YORK, NY.- Kristen Lorello is presenting a solo exhibition of new paintings on plexiglass by Giacinto Occhionero. This is the Rome, Italy-based artist's fifth solo exhibition at Kristen Lorello. It develops his particular technique of reverse plexiglass painting and expands his abstract language of repeated circular motifs. In 2014, Occhionero made a breakthrough in his artistic development following an artist residency he attended in Istanbul, Turkey. Influenced by various public gardens he visited there, he began applying spray paint to transparent synthetic surfaces in small circular markings that lent his works an impressionistic feel. Over time, the artist began to insert secondary and tertiary colors into the circular shapes and to layer planes of color behind these forms to suggest an environment of cellular, celestial, and oceanographic patterns. In this new exhibition, Occhionero again expands the exploration of his own col ... More | | Seif Wanly (Egyptian 1906 1979), Portrait of a Man in Purple (Abbas Fawzy). Gouache on paper. More Adam Brace, director of ambitious one-person shows, dies at 43 NEW YORK, NY.- Adam Brace, a prolific British director renowned as an incisive collaborator with stand-up comedians and other performers on a string of acclaimed one-person shows, one of which is to open on Broadway next month, died April 29 in London. He was 43. Rebecca Fuller, his partner, said the cause of his death, in a hospital, was complications of a stroke. For more than a decade, Brace worked with more than a dozen comedians and actors, up-and-coming as well as established and most of them British, to craft stage shows that were thematically and structurally more ambitious than conventional stand-up sets, more in the tradition of shows starring American monologists like Eric Bogosian, Colin Quinn and Mike Birbiglia. Brace, who had once been a playwright, helped edit the shows with a sophis ... More Review: At the Met, a new 'Don Giovanni' has a stark vitality NEW YORK, NY.- When Ivo van Hoves new production of Don Giovanni begins, tendrils of smoke rise off the pavement onstage as if hell is already simmering underneath, ready to drag down the dissolute seducer of the title. Even though his staging dresses centuries-old characters in contemporary clothes and sets them in a courtyard of recognizably modern (if eerily anonymous) architecture, its clear that van Hove believes in good old-fashioned damnation. He is willing to embrace, however austerely, the supernatural side of this Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart classic, its surreal theatrical conventions. Known for his plain, harsh adaptations of plays such as A View From the Bridge and The Crucible, van Hove doesnt strain in his new production, playing at the Metropolitan Opera, to pr ... Jones, who lives in Richardson, Texas, first visited Cuba in 2018 and was immediately inspired to begin his paintings of the current reality of life there. Jones has subsequently made two more trips to Cuba, each time traveling to small towns around the island-nation where the Artist takes time to learn about the lives of its inhabitants, talking to locals and absorbing their world through the music, commerce, dance, thought and history that informs their daily lives. For this exhibition, La Vida Brava Cuba Today, Jones has created nearly thirty new watercolors that ... Odilon Redon was a uniquely creative artist whose personal psychological voyage is made starkly visible in the images he created.
