ROSIETICI, MOLDOVA.- He died nearly three decades ago in a tiny village at the bottom of the valley, unheralded and quickly forgotten, except by a few old-timers who still marvel at how Zaharia Cusnir, a poor farmhand with four children to raise, put so much time into taking photographs with a clunky Soviet camera. He was at every wedding and funeral with that thing, recalled Vyacheslav Bulkhak, one of only a few dozen people, all pensioners, still living in the now mostly abandoned riverside hamlet of Rosietici, north of Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. About the only other thing residents remember about Cusnir at times a teacher, collective farmworker and blacksmith was that he liked to drink, hardly unusual in a region of Moldova studded with vineyards. CHICAGO, IL.- Hindman set a new world auction record for Gertrude Abercrombie with the sale of her 1947 painting Untitled (Woman with Tethered Horse and Moon) for $437,500. BALTIMORE, MD.- The Baltimore Museum of Art today announced it is embarking on a major renovation and reconceptualization of the Joseph Education Center that will introduce more opportunities for dynamic, hands-on engagement when it reopens in fall 2023. A significant focal point will be the creation of a larger interactive gallery within the 5,625 square-foot center that features new site-specific installations that encourage direct visitor engagement, especially among children, made by internationally acclaimed artists Derrick Adams, Mary Flanagan, and Pablo Helguera. Instead of inventing images, constructing forms, or having things fabricated, Boetti took the stuff of the world, rearranged it, and put it back into the world as art.
