ORANIENBURG (AFP).- A tour group handpicked by the far-right party Alternative for Germany touched off a scandal last summer while visiting the former Nazi concentration camp Sachsenhausen north of Berlin. A few members of the delegation began asking the guide pointed questions about Allied bombing at the end of World War II, implying its impact on the civilian population was comparable to the Nazis' atrocities. PARIS (AFP).- Flag-waving Parisians in period costume thronged the streets Sunday as armoured vehicles rumbled through the city in a re-enactment of the liberation of the capital from Nazi Germany 75 years ago. A column of military vehicles entered the city from the south, using the same route taken by the first Allied division -- led by French General Philippe Leclerc -- to reach the city in August 1944. To try recreate the scenes of rejoicing that their arrival triggered, some residents and business owners along the route decorated their balconies and shopfronts with French flags. Through working with veterans over five years, Casteel became aware of the subtle indicators of past traumatic experience. He also recognized that the condition in which we live can often be a signifier of our well-being and that even the state of car interiors can be a manifestation of human interiors. Donald Sutherland to get honorary award in Spain
MADRID (AFP).- Canadian actor Donald Sutherland, known for films as diverse as "M*A*S*H" and the Hunger Games series, will receive a lifetime achievement award at Spain's San Sebastian film festival, organisers announced Monday. The 84-year-old actor will receive the Donostia Award, recognising "more than fifty years of excellent performances", on September 26. "Sutherland has shown great talent when embodying dozens of characters, with no regard for genre: from drama to war movies, including thrillers, horror and science fiction films," the film festival said in a statement.
