NEW YORK, NY.- Anders Wahlstedt Fine Art is presenting an exhibit of silkscreen prints by Joan Mitchell and Grace Hartigan during their time at the Tiber Press in the late 1950s. On view are some rare proofs by Joan Mitchell and prints by Grace Hartigan from Salute, a collaboration between the artist and poet James Schuyler. Also on display are photographs of Joan Mitchell working in the Tiber Press printing studio and some of the acetate sheets painted by the artist before printing the silkscreens. Floriano Vecchi and Richard Miller founded the Tiber Press in 1953, specializing in very fine silkscreen print making techniques. Vecchi received widespread acclaim in the New York Art scene in 1962 following his work with Andy Warhol on a screen made out of a dollar bill Warhol had drawn. NEW YORK (NYT NEWS SERVICE ).- Alberta is a tyrannosaur graveyard. There rest great carnivores of the Cretaceous, such as Albertosaurus, Gorgosaurus, Daspletosaurus and, of course, Tyrannosaurus rex. Now, paleontologists in the province have announced the discovery of Canadas oldest known tyrannosaur: Thanatotheristes degrootorum, or the Reaper of Death. With its razor-sharp teeth and formidable two-ton frame, the newly discovered species terrorized the region some 79.5 million years ago. Though smaller than T. rex, it still measured about 30 feet long and about 8 feet tall. LONDON.- The Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Sale in London realised £56,180,434 / $72,697,482, to take the running total for 20th Century Week to £184,916,135. The top price of the night was achieved by Andy Warhols Muhammad Ali, which sold for £4,973,250 (including buyers premium). In 1977, Richard L. Weisman commissioned Warhol to paint the Athletes series, a set of ten silkscreen portraits of the leading sports stars of the day including Muhammad Ali, Chris Evert and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Signed by both Warhol and Ali, it was one of 10 works by Warhol offered from Weismans collection in the sale. NEW YORK (NYT NEWS SERVICE ).- In looping handwriting, the artist Georgia OKeeffe sketched out a method for making chicken flautas, from rolling up chicken in tortillas to cooking a creamy green chile-spiced sauce. After about 10 minutes in the oven, theyd be done, just the way she liked them. Do you think other people eat as well as we do? she would often wonder aloud. For the first time, OKeeffes collection of recipes a card file containing about 300 items is going up for auction. Many are penned, or penciled, by the artist. LIVERPOOL (AFP).- It's a Liverpool institution that was a favourite hangout of The Beatles. Now, the Philharmonic Dining Rooms has become the first Victorian-era English pub to be given Grade I listed status. "The Phil", as it's known in the city, was built in 1898 by architect Walter W Thomas during the "golden age" of pub building in the 19th century. The venue, opposite the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall concert venue, is notable for its exuberant grand stone exterior and richly decorated interior. John Lennon once complained that the worst thing about being in The Beatles was "not being able to have a pint in the Phil". Band-mate Paul McCartney returned to the city where the band made their name and surprised drinkers with an impromptu show there in 2018. LONDON (AFP).- Oscar-winning British director Steve McQueen is returning to his art roots with a series of short films at London's Tate Modern art gallery, offering a sensory exploration of black identity. McQueen, who became the first black director to win the best picture Academy Award in 2014 for "12 Years a Slave", is now based between London and Amsterdam and is focused on championing diversity in the film industry. Visitors to his new exhibition will be greeted by "Static", a film of New York's Statue of Liberty, scrutinising the iconic symbol from every possible angle at very close range against a deafening backdrop of the helicopter from where the footage was filmed. AUSTIN, TX.- The University of Texas at Austin announces that two of its major arts programs have received gifts totaling $10 million from Austin-based Still Water Foundation. The Blanton Museum of Art and Landmarks will each receive $5 million to strengthen their respective programs. The Blanton Museum of Arts master plan project to reimagine and transform the museum grounds will receive $5 million in support. Landmarks, the universitys public art program in the College of Fine Arts, will receive $5 million, which will serve as the foundation of an operating endowment for the organization. NEW YORK (NYT NEWS SERVICE ).- For 17 years, Angela Hewitt, one of the worlds foremost classical pianists, has been performing recitals and creating acclaimed recordings with a rare concert grand piano. But their partnership has now ended. This week, she composed a eulogy for her beloved instrument, as full of emotion and longing as the music she once created with it, after movers dropped the piano, destroying it. In a Facebook post Sunday, Hewitt described having just completed a recording of Beethoven variations at a studio in Berlin.
