MADRID.- The new installation presented was first envisaged in the Redesign of the Collections of the Museo del Prado Plan, known as the 2009-2012 Action Plan. It has been implemented through the Museums subsequent four-year plans and aims at making full use of all the existing galleries in the Villanueva Building. Following the completion in 2007 of the extension to the Museo del Prado around the Jerónimos Cloister, which resulted in a considerable and extremely useful increase in surface area for both public and internal use, the Museum decided to focus on a new type of extension based on regaining pre-existing galleries in the Villanueva Building that were not being used as display space at the time. The result was to increase the amount of exhibition space, presenting more works of art on permanent display and using more architectural spaces of notable artistic importance, in addition to offering a new, more co ... The gift also includes $10 million, for the endowment of the Museum's first curatorial position dedicated to contemporary art; for the care and exhibition of the collection; and a promised gift for future institutional use. The artist considered the creation of a painting to be an almost sacred act, and believed that the ... More | | Peter Bremers, Honey Sweet Space, 2017. Cast glass, 25 x 8 x 8". TAMPA (AFP).- The Tyrannosaurus rex is crowned the "lizard king" of the dinosaurs, a historically fierce meat-eater often depicted lashing out its tongue. But researchers said Wednesday this would have been anatomically impossible. That's because the long-extinct T. rex likely had a tongue that was affixed to the bottom of its mouth, much like an alligator or crocodile, said the study in the journal PLOS ONE. "They've been reconstructed the wrong way for a long time," said co-author Julia Clarke, a professor in the school of geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin. A team of researchers, led by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, compared the hyoid bones -- a horseshoe-shaped bone between the chin and neck which anchors the tongue -- of extinct dinosaurs and pterosaurs to their relatives, including modern birds like ostriches and both extinct and current-day alligator specimens. "In most extinct dinosaurs their tongue bones are very short. ... More |

Widow of French writer Celine sells their home to pay debts | | The Holburne Museum launches hunt for lost Grayson Perry early works | | Barbican Art Gallery presents the first major UK solo exhibition of Vanessa Winship | Louis-Ferdinand Céline (1886-1958), French writer in 1932, the year he won the Renaudot prize for his novel Journey to the End of the Night. Agence de presse Meurisse - Bibliothèque nationale de France. PARIS (AFP).- The 106-year-old widow of French novelist Louis-Ferdinand Celine has sold their home in the Paris suburbs, her lawyer told AFP on Wednesday, reportedly to pay her debts. Lucette Destouches has lived at the house in Meudon, southwest of the capital, since she and her husband moved there in 1951, according to French weekly Le Point, which revealed the sale. The magazine said she owed back taxes as well as payroll charges for the three people who help look after her, which meant she was no longer receiving a pension. Francois Gibault, a lawyer and biographer of Celine, said that under the terms of the sale Destouches retained the right to live in the home until her death. Celine, best known for his 1932 novel "Voyage au Bout de la Nuit" ("Journey to the End of the Night"), ... More | | Grayson Perry, 2016 © Richard Ansett. BATH.- Have you got a Grayson Perry pot or plate from the 1980s lurking in your living room? If you have, then the Holburne Museum in Bath wants to hear from you. He works in tapestry, collage and ceramics to explore a range of important themes, including issues of gender, identity and social class, presenting through his art a unique perspective on the world. Grayson Perry and the Holburne would like to reunite the early works, those created between 1983 and 1994, that first made Grayson Perrys name. The resulting show will shine a light on Perrys experimentation in ceramics and exploration of the mediums potential. However, theres just one problem. Many of the artists earliest works were unrecorded at the time, and throughout the decades their exact whereabouts have become unknown. A number of works may have changed hands, ...
